Though back and neck problems are quite common, yet people tend to ignore them until it becomes so complicated that the help of doctors and extensive medication is needed. There could be various causes that lead to back and neck problems. Neck tension could be caused due to physiological reasons like unaccustomed exercise or by adopting bad sleeping postures. Back pain or back ache could be due to long hours of working in the computer, sleeping, driving, using wrong posture while sitting, etc.
Back aches could be acute or chronic. Acute back ache could be due to extra stress on the back which in turn could lead to ligament or muscle or bone injuries. Chronic back ache generally keeps recurring every now and then, inspite of adopting normal body movements and postures. Also disorders in certain body organs like kidney, pelvic disorder in females, prostate problems, bladder problems etc could also lead to back ache. Back ache during pregnancy is quite common due to the pressure exerted by the growing baby on the lower spine. Bach ache could become chronic if left untreated. Here are some home remedies that could be adopted which could give relief to some extent.
Sit in a chair with enough support for the back (rather than in a couch) and with a head back position (the neck facing the ceiling). Relaxing in this position for a few minutes a day could be quite relaxing.
Stand with feet apart and hands placed on the lower back with fingers pointing downwards. Bend in the backward direction as much as possible, without moving the knees and hold on in that position for five seconds and then relax. Doing this exercise repeatedly throughout the day will provide relief from back ache developed due to prolonged use of computers etc.
While bending down to lift an object, bending the knees first, will reduce the pressure exerted on the lower back and spine. Gently roll and massage neck, and the connecting muscles including shoulder and back. When the massage is done using mustard oil or ginger extract on the affected parts, it could prove more effective. Massaging by hands releases muscle tension and relaxes the muscles in the affected area.
