Arjuna (Terminalia Arjuna)

[tag]Arjuna[/tag] ([tag]Terminalia Arjuna[/tag]) is an evergreen tree found in sub-Himalayan regions in India. The bark, leaves and fruits of this plant is of tremendous medicinal value. Arjuna is used in traditional [tag]Ayurvedic therapies[/tag] for [tag]cardio-vascular health[/tag]. It has been found effective in lowering high blood pressure, reducing stress and nervous disorders and in regulating cholesterol levels and helps in maintaining a healthy heart.

The bark of the plant is a good astringent, has rejuvenative properties, is a cardio-stimulant, useful medication for treating fever, kidney problems, heals wounds and infections, and is effectively used for strengthening heart when given as a milk decoction. It is also a deobstruent, expectorant, diuretic, haemostatic, anti-inflammatory and anti-poisonous.

In addition to the above, it is an effective antidote for chronic fever, obesity, general fatigue, asthma, anaemia, cough, tumors and other skin diseases. When used in the form of a tonic, it boosts energy levels and longevity.When consumed in the form of a decoction it helps in treatment of diarrhea, sprue (disease that occurs due to persistent diarrhea), nausea and other liver-related disorders. External application of decoction of the bark of this plant acts as an astringent in healing wound, infections and scars.  It is also proven to be effective in treating acne when applied with honey externally as an ointment. The paste made out of the bark of this plant helps in healing bleeding from wounds and hemorrhoids due to its haemostatic property.

Application of paste of the bark of Arjuna externally, and consuming a milk decoction of this plant internally heals bone fractures. The fruit of the plant is used as a tonic for overall health and juice of the leaves provide relief from ear pain. The ash of the plant is helpful in treating poison from snake bites and scorpion stings.
