Children these days are being drawn to Ayurveda, with specially prepared Ayurvedic cookies , ketchups, biscuits and baby foods arriving at the market. By adopting such strategies, Ayurvedic practitioners are trying to instill the taste of health supplements and Ayurvedic medicines in the children at a young age.
Among the baby food varieties that has been introduced in the market, are ‘Poshana’, a healthy mix of pulses and cereals, and ‘Kunnamkai’, a plantain variety in Kerala. The Managing Director of Arya Vaidya Pharmacy Ltd (AVP) at Coimbatore, P R Krishna, mentions that, as the introduction of Chyavanprash for young kids seemed difficult, it was finally decided to bring out the product, packaged as cookies and biscuits, and it was a great hit.
He adds that the ‘Brahmi’, ‘Aswagandha’ and ‘Chyavana’ biscuits that were introduced in the market a couple of months ago are doing extremely well till date. While ‘Brahmi’ is a memory booster, ‘Aswagandha’ improves vitality and strength and ‘Chyavana’ improves overall health.
The General Manager, Product Development, Dr. P.G. Krishnaswamy, says that AVP has also launched various tomato-based herbal ketchups in the market with three main flavours lemon, mango and ginger-tamarind, which are said to be of good demand in the Gulf market. Also herbal teas in ten different flavours have been introduced for tackling obesity, indigestion and headaches.
