How many of you have been suffering from stuffy nose, sinusitis or allergic rhinitis, without being able to find the right treatment for it?
Well, an ancient Ayurvedic technique, known as Jal Neti which means nasal douche could help in clearing nasal passages by flushing out bacteria, dirt and contaminated mucus.
Clear nasal passages can improve breathing, prevent infections and enhance blood circulation, helping you to sleep better and thereby keeping you fresh.
In the first place, get a jal neti pot (a vessel shaped like a kettle, containing a spout) available with chemists, or ceramic or plastic selling shops, or ayurvedic pharmacies.
Dissolve one teaspoon of common salt in 500ml of pre-boiled lukewarm water. Fill the jal neti pot with part of this saline water. Bending forward, tilt you head to one side in such a manner that, your left nostril remains slightly at a higher position than your right one.
Breathing with your mouth, place the spout in your left nostril and gently pour the saline solution into the nostril. Continue to breathe only with your mouth. You can feel the water flowing in through the left nostril, and out through the right one.
Blow your nose to get rid of any excess water. When the pot is empty, refill the Jal Neti pot with more lukewarm saline water, and repeat the process for the right nostril.
Repeat the procedure immediately for each of the nostrils. Do this twice a day. The best time to do this is in the morning, and before bedtime.
The procedure helps in improving the mobility of cilia (the hair-like structures lining the nasal and sinus cavities), as the cilia helps in pushing out mucus. Regular Jal Neti therapy can help ease symptoms in allergy and sinusitis sufferers. Jal Neti also helps in easing symptoms of Asthma and migraine.
