The astringent, heating and dry nature of this herb helps regulate kapha dosha, which is the primary cause of diabetes. It also helps in efficient functioning of the liver and pancreas. The herb can be consumed in powdered form (1 to 2gms) or as a decoction (10 to 20 ml).


Aids in insulin regeneration and in production of beta cells. The Gymnemic acid present in the herb has molecular arrangement that is similar to glucose molecules. Gymnemic acid molecules help in curbing sugar craving tendencies. The dried leaves can be consumed either in powdered form (3-6gms) or a decoction of the roots of the herb can be consumed (50 to 100ml).


Apart from regulating kapha dosha, Neem helps regulate metabolism. It enhances insulin receptor sensitivity and also helps in reducing the need for hypo-glycaemic drugs. The dried leaves of the plant can be had in powdered form (3 to 6gms).


Given its astringent and absorptive qualities, Jamun helps in balancing kapha. It helps control the frequency and output of urine, while also lowering the urine and blood sugar levels. Powdered dried seeds of Jamun can be consumed (3-6gms).


The astringent properties of the herb help in balancing kapha and helps regulate glucose levels. It also balances body metabolism. It works well for diabetic complications. When used in the form of decoction, 50 to 100ml can be used, while 3 to 6gms can be used in powdered form.


The powdered form of Bilva leaves, are particularly useful in treating diabetes, to regulate blood sugar and minimize diabetic complications. About 3-6gms of the powdered form of dried unripe fruit can be consumed.

Methi (fenugreek)

The bitter taste and cooling effect of methi, makes it an effective remedy for kapha dosha, thereby fighting the root cause of diabetes. About 2 to 6gms of powdered form of seeds and leaves can be taken.


Haridra helps balance kapha dosha, the primary dosha involved in diabetes. The antiseptic properties of Haridra also make it a useful herb in curbing infections in diabetic patients. It can also help in treating skin boils, and urinary tract infections, that are common in diabetics. Haridra can be had in powdered form (2-4gms), else, 10-20ml of the juice of fresh Haridra rhizome can be consumed.


Bittergourd has excellent qualities that pacify kapha dosha. It also stimulates pancreas, liver and spleen and regulates blood sugar levels. It aids food absorption and improves metabolism. It contains a hypglycemic or insulin-like principle and hence considered as plant insulin, and is invaluable in controlling blood and urine sugar. About 10 to 20ml of fresh Bittergourd juice can be consumed on an empty stomach in the morning, or it can be consumed in powdered form (3 to 6gms).

Amla (Indian gooseberry)

A teaspoon of Amla juice can be mixed with a cup of bittergourd juice and consumed, as recommended by experts. This helps stimulate the pancreas, which secrete insulin for reducing blood sugar levels. Amla seeds or dried amla is invaluable in control of diabetes.

Bael leaves

Bael leaves are effective in controlling diabetes and can be taken in various combinations. The leaves, when taken by themselves, serve as medicine. They help in bringing down sugar levels considerably. Bael leaves can be grounded and taken every morning on empty stomach.
