[tag]Chelation Therapy[/tag] is an effective treatment in patients with blocks([tag]plaque deposits[/tag]) in their blood vessels leading to the heart. It is not to be mistaken or misunderstood as an optional treatment for heart attacks.

In this kind of therapy, administration of a chemical agent like EDTA (Ethylenediamine tetra acetic acid) is done intravenously on the patient.  This chemical agent binds itself to the various minerals and metallic compounds present in the blood and body and is finally excreted vide the patients urine.  Research and various tests have shown positive results in many people with distinct improvement in clearance of the blocked blood vessels and also an increased tolerance level to cardiac exercises.

Chelation therapy is widely practiced in treating patients with [tag]chronic degenerative diseases[/tag] of the blood circulatory system and in treatment of patients with [tag]atherosclerosis[/tag]. Scientists doing research on Chelation therapy are of the strong opinion that this type of therapy is most beneficial in removing the metallic catalysts which are the main cause of proliferation of free radicals in human body.  Oxidation of the enzyme systems, lipids, the DNA and Lipoproteins are thus reduced to a great extent with this therapy.

Prior to subjecting a patient to Chelation therapy and to determine its effectiveness on the patient, his/her condition is assessed through various medical tests.  A thorough investigation on all aspects of previous health problems, if any and questions related to the patients diet, habits, stress levels etc are done prior to the administering of EDTA infusion.  A complete physical examination with special emphasis on respiratory and circulatory systems are performed, followed by medical examinations like ECG, blood and urine sample analysis. Tolerance levels of the heart and the lungs through Treadmill tests are done.  A Doppler examination  of the circulatory system is also done to assess the circulatory system prior to the therapy.

Chelation Therapy effectively reverses the damages that are caused due to the bad effects of the high lipids and lipoproteins thus initiating the human body to heal naturally.  It also removes copper and calcium anions from the blood stream and effects thinning down of the plaque deposited in the arterial walls of the blood vessels.  It also effectively heals the cell lines along the arteries improving the blood flow to the heart and relaxing the muscles around it.  Patients who had undergone Chelation therapy has admitted to feeling much better after the therapy.

Though the treatment is highly effective the patients have to normally undergo the routine of the therapy for a series of 20-30 sessions.
