Yoga nidra, the supreme meditative and relaxing technique, is not about being asleep, as it otherwise sounds, but about being alert all-through. The aspirant remainsrelaxed in the stillness, in the savasana posture and commences a gentle and powerful sense of awareness feeling all parts of his physical body from toes to head. By doing this, he feels the release of tension and stress from each part of the body – the digestive, cardiac, circulatory, neurological, muscular and excretory.
This process of yoga nidra helps in regularizing the breathing process, helping one to realize the flow of pranic energy (life force) through every nerve. This also helps the aspirant to remain in harmony with his mind and thoughts.
Through the process of yoga nidra, the confusion, ignorance and stress is gradually let out and the aspirant begins to understand the truth and principles of life, and he will be able to comprehend the finer aspect concerning him and his intuitive knowledge.
Yoga nidra is also considered the ultimate cleansing of the soul (atma shudhi), wherein the retarding forces make way to progress and help one in realizing his ambitions and dreams. Thus, he remains contented and do not need any kind of external source for peace or comfort.
The practitioner, on experiencing this bliss, will again repeat the process through chanting of the “Om” and this deep and true relaxation helps in bringing about the tremendous creativity and potential that is hidden within every human being.
