Our kitchen and garden is a storehouse of unique natural ingredients, which, if effectively used, can be the perfect solution to majority of beauty issues that we face today. According to Ayurveda, natural ingredients such as cucumber, egg, honey, turmeric, milk, carrot, and Amla (Indian gooseberries), are actually beauty wonders. Heres how we could include these as part of our beauty routine.

The cucumber magic

Since ancient days, women have been using cucumber face packs for improving facial glow. Make a paste of fresh cucumber and use as a pack to remove dark spots in the face. Place sliced cucumber pieces on top of your eyelids and rest for 15 minutes. This helps refresh tired eyes instantly and removes under-eye dark circles, when used daily.
Carrot for glowing skin: Carrot is an excellent skin toner. Applying fresh carrot juice on the face, will add a glow to the skin, and improve skin elasticity. The high antioxidant levels in carrots, nourishes the skin. Also, carrots can be made into a paste and used as pack to remove dark spots.

Potato for eyes

Potato is a natural cleanser. It helps remove under-eye puffiness and dark circles. To remove puffiness below the eye, apply potato juice on the eye bags. This is also an excellent remedy for tired eyes. To remove dark spots or dark patches on the face, place thin slices of potato on the patches and rest for a while.

Amla (Indian gooseberries) for hair

Soak amla and reetha in water for few hours, filter it, and use this water for washing hair. Adding mehndi to this solution will make it a good hair conditioner too.

Tomato for better skin tone

Mix two teaspoons of tomato juice, with four tablespoons of butter milk. Apply this on the face, and leave on for half an hour, and rinse well. This is excellent for removing sun tan, and improving skin tone.

Honey for supple skin

Apply honey on to your face, and leave on for 15 minutes. Wet cotton wool in lukewarm water and remove it. This helps in making the skin soft and supple. To remove pimples and dark patches, mix honey with cucumber juice and apply on face, and wash off.

Turmeric to remove facial hair

Since ancient days, turmeric has been an asset in maintaining beauty of the skin. During ancient days, women applied turmeric paste on face, arms and legs to curb hair growth. Mix turmeric paste with milk, and apply on face, leave on for a few minutes and wash when it dries up. When done on regular basis, this helps prevent facial hair growth.

Lemon for fair skin

Lemon has always been associated with a list of beauty tips. Mix juice of lemon with turmeric and apply on face to improve skin complexion. Lemon is an excellent bleaching agent. Mix lemon with sugar and apply on underarms in clockwise and anticlockwise direction. This can help remove underarm discolouration.

Hibiscus for hair growth

Warm coconut oil by adding few hibiscus petals, and apply this on the scalp for better hair growth. This also helps in retaining the original black colour of the hair. A home-made shampoo to which paste of hibiscus leaves are added, can help remove dandruff.

Papaya facepack for youthful glow

Add two tablespoons of ripe papaya to lukewarm water, and make a mask. Apply on to face and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash with lukewarm water. This is an excellent face pack for all skin types. Papaya, being high in anti-oxidants, helps in maintaining youthfulness of the skin.

Milk for cleansing

Raw milk can be massaged on to face, and washed off after a few minutes. This helps remove dark patches on the skin, and improve skin tone. Add one or two drops of lime juice to milk cream and massage on to skin, to improve skin tone, and remove dark patches.
