[tag]Hypnotherapy[/tag] is one of the well known therapies used in treating [tag]Irritable Bowel Syndrome[/tag] (IBS), which is more of a drug-free solution to the patients undergoing symptoms of constipation, stomach upsets, bloating and diarrhea.
These days there is a modern technique called “gut-directed hypnotherapy” wherein the general [tag]hypnotherapic techniques[/tag] are applied directly to the symptoms of abdominal pain that the IBS patients have to deal with. This therapy has been found effective in a lot of IBS patients who did not respond to other treatments.
Unlike in [tag]hypnosis[/tag], Hypnotherapy is a medical setting wherein the patients remain fully in control of their surroundings and actions and are put into a deep state of relaxation. During this state, the patient is asked to place his hand in his abdomen and the therapist talks to the patient and the patient is made to feel the healing warmth that flows from his hand to his stomach. Certain Hypnotherapists even record the sessions so that the patient gets to listen to them again in between his appointments because this increases the effectiveness of the therapy.
A patient suffering from IBS can even do a self hypnotherapy by taking help of self-hypnosis CDs available. Though undergoing a self hypnosis is not as effective as an individual treatment given by a qualified hypnotherapist, the patient will be benefited from the general approach of hypnosis. Self-hypnosis can be done at home and the makers of Audio CDs and cassettes of IBS Audio Programs claim that at least 80% of patients who regularly do self hypnosis have reported considerable reduction in IBS symptoms.
