There is an increase in number of people who, stressed by their daily routine, believe that they can indeed try and change their approach towards life. They have begun taking [tag]Yoga[/tag] and [tag]Pilates[/tag] (a postural therapy and holistic form of exercise) classes for reducing stress, loosening twists and to find some peace of mind before getting back to work. Though, Pilates and Yoga were considered as alternate life style activities about a decade ago, it is now as common as a regular walk or a work out in the gym.
As reported by Sporting Goods Manufacturing Association, the number of Americans turning to [tag]Tai Chi[/tag] (a martial art) and Yoga has doubled since the year 2000. The figures say that the number of Americans who took up Tai Chi and Yoga increased from 7.4 million in 2000 to 14.7 million in 2005. Also the number of people who took up Pilates increased from 1.7 million in 2000 to 10.4 million in 2005.
Pilates which is a combination of accurate movements, breathe control and concentration, focuses on strengthening the torso muscles and mostly attracts women than men. To meet success in Pilates, one should know multitasking, which women naturally seem to possess. Women attending Pilates classes belongs to age group of 20 to 70, and it was found that it appealed more to women who never participated in any kind of exercise or sports in their life.
Studies reveal that the increase in the number of people turning to Yoga is because it has the ability to draw the mind, body and soul to one practice which is not possible in a regular exercise or treadmill. Their affinity towards yoga is also for improvement in their [tag]blood pressure levels[/tag], for reducing stress and for finding relief from stiffness and joint pain.
