Pilates can be worked out by attending a Mat Class or by enrolling in a dedicated Pilate Studio.

Mat Pilates Classes: is typically taught in groups and is offered in fitness and health centers or even in dance classes. Here a teacher guides the student through a series of exercises which takes into consideration the posture and alignment and helps in maintaining balance, promotes suppleness and strength. A Mat class session will last between 60-90 minutes.

However, the qualifications of the teacher should be checked before enrolling, as there are many exercise teachers, a fitness teacher need not necessarily be a Pilates teacher without proper qualification and training.

Pilates Studio Classes – In a Pilates Studio, training is given on small groups or a semi-private basis, and conversation with the teacher helps in identification of particular areas that needs to be focused. Also one can train on a specialized Pilates equipment and can work on a specific programme. Here one can expect more guidance from the teacher who supports and corrects individually during exercises and there is a better teacher-pupil relationship. The Pilates studio classes is also said to accelerate the time consumed to get the desired results.

For enrolling in Pilates classes, one can visit a health club or aerobics class to find out if they offer training in Pilates too. Most cities have Pilates Studios, or one can even buy one’s own Pilates equipment.
