Kidney Stones are made of salts and minerals such as calcium or phosphate or oxalate, which are absorbed from food, and instead of getting excreted through urine, they sometimes stick together to form small ‘pebbles.’ They may remain in the kidneys or travel out of the body through the urinary tract. While the stones pass through the kidneys, they cause severe pain.

The first thing that needs to be done to prevent Kidney stone is of-course, to drink six to eight glasses of water a day so as to dilute urine and prevent crystallization. However, Kidney stones could prevail in families too. In such cases, the following herbs could be considered. Although they do not eliminate the stones completely, they reduce the associated pain, and help in preventing occurrence of stones to a certain extent. A few such herbs that reduce spasms, pain and infection are Goldenrod, cramp bark, and Joe-pye weed (also called gravel root). Agrimony, yarrow, shepherd’s purse, horsetail, nettle and St. John’s Wort, help in reducing bleeding associated with kidney stones.

As excessive amount of calcium in the urinary tract is one of the reasons for formation of Kidney stones, an ancient study had revealed cranberries to be helpful in preventing stones. Also, few other studies conducted on the herb Rosemary, also revealed that the herb almost completely inhibits Urease, an enzyme that contributes to kidney stones.

It is also recommended that individuals prone to Kidney stones could keep away from foods such as spinach, rhubarb, sorrel, chocolates, and beet greens, as far as possible.

The following herbal tea may prove to be a helpful remedy for Kidney Stones:

Ingredients: 2tsp hydrangea root, one tsp each of cramp bark, wild yam root, and joe-pye weed, ½ tsp each of yarrow leaf, plantain leaf, and corn silk, and 1 ½ quarts of water.

Method: Boil water adding wild yam, hydrangea and cramp bark, simmer it for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, and add other herbs too. Cover the pan and steep for 20 minutes. Strain and store the solution in Refrigerator. Drink three to four such cups every day.

SEVERAL METHODS OF RELIEVING STONE PAIN:

The dilation of the ureter is the basic cause of pain. If the ureter “deflates” by anything then it should eliminate your pain. There are many available vibrators which deflates your kidney and ureter temporarily by eliminating your pain.

Two main methods which temporarily relieve your pain:
    1) Walking continuously this temporarily eliminates your pain. As you walk vigorously your kidney and utres shakes. Instead of using vibrators to deflate your kidney we are applying natural treatment for relief.

    2) Take different types of smooth muscle relaxants. This should be taken continuously for more than 1 week.

These methods are little bit beneficent. But they can’t relief immediately with in hours or days. Stones in the kidneys take much amount of time which may be days and nights to pass to the bladder.
