Yoga is a 5000 year old practice, which continues to evolve through the years to meet individual needs. Today, there are different forms of yoga, though most styles have unique features with common roots.  It is an ancient Indian body of knowledge, which is derived from the Sanskrit work “yuj” which implies “to integrate”. Hence yoga is all about the union of an individual’s own consciousness with that of the universe. Yoga is more accurately described through the Sanskrit word “Asana” which refers to practice of certain physical postures. However, now the words Yoga and Asana are almost considered synonymous.

Yoga is suitable for all age groups, who have the determination to learn. It does not require any special clothing or equipment. It encourages the reflection of oneself to seek inner peace. Unlike what most people think, yoga is more than just stretching exercises. It provides relaxation to the mind as well. Yoga is actually about creating body balance while also developing flexibility and strength. Every posture has certain specific physical benefits when practiced in the right way.

Yoga treats body with respect and care, as it is the primary instrument responsible for man’s growth. The yoga exercises enhance circulation, stimulates internal organs and the glandular system of the body, which on the whole, contribute to good health. Yoga also includes breathing techniques that develop body awareness, concentration and relieves from daily stress.

[tag]Yoga[/tag] is unique in its own way, because though the postures practiced are the same everyday, every individual’s practice keeps changing and evolving, and his relationship to the practice of each posture keeps changing and hence doesn’t appear monotonous. Another most liberating task of yoga is that it brings about a non-competitive spirit of letting go of the ego, and considering all to be one and the same.
