Any individual who is physically fit, and has an interest for learning about deeper aspects of yoga, can enroll themselves at yoga institutes for certificate yoga courses. There are also non-certified yoga courses that are available for beginners, advanced and intermediate practitioners.
The regular yoga courses include Yoga Sopan to Yoga Pandit, Yoga Sopan being the simplest.
Yoga Sopan – is a simple course taught in five days for beginners and includes simple movements, easy to do meditation, yogasana, deep breathing exercises and is recommended for those suffering from hypertension, backache and elderly people.
Yoga Pravesh – is a one month course and involves various body movements involving neck, arms, legs and waist that are necessary for Suryanamaskars, yoga training, yogasanas and breathing exercises. This course also includes a few lectures on yoga, and ends with practices that are part of the curriculum and includes practical examinations too.
Yoga Parichaya (Certification in Yoga)- This is a one and a half month courseand includes twelve lectures on Niyama, Yama, Hygiene, Ayurveda, food habits and certain advanced stages of cleansing process in Yogasana like Kalpabhati, Vaman, Jalneti and Pranayamas. Both written and practical examinations are conducted
Yoga Praveen (Diploma in Yoga) – This is an advanced course of yoga, the duration of which is three months. The Asanas are a little more advanced in this course and includes meditation, Shuddikriya, all forms of Pranayama and plenty of theoretical text. Includes lectures and a bit of research work too.
Yoga Pandit (Bachelor in Yoga) – This is a residential course involving one week each of three sessions. The most important aspect of the course is that it takes one through the path of a yogi. On completing this course, one can sit comfortably on one Asana for half an hour, and can perform Pranayama for half an hour. Involves discussions on various subjects related to Therapies, Mind and Yoga.
Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy - This course requires Graduation in Yoga as a pre-requisite and is recognized by Government of India. A certificate in this course enables one to teach yoga in any part of the world. The course helps in promoting positive energy and health, helps in rehabilitation, imparts skills that help in introducing yoga to general public, and enables one to establish a yoga therapy center if required, for service of general public.
Master of Science in Yoga – The course requires Bachelor of Science in Yoga as a pre-requisite, and is a two year course. It is recognized by Government of India, and a certification in the course enables one in teaching yoga in any part of the world. It helps in bringing about all-round personality development of yoga teachers, provides training to teach yoga in colleges and schools and introduces research aspects and helps one conducts external and internal research.
Doctoral degree in Yoga (PhD) – This is a three year course and requires MSC in yoga or M.Com/BE/MBBS/BAMS/BHMS (related to yoga) as a pre-requisite. It is recognized by Government of India, and a certification in the course enables one in teaching yoga in any part of the world. Its objective includes revealing and bringing to light the ancient spiritual and yoga knowledge, and studying its efficacy in today’s world through scrupulous experimental and theoretical research in various fields.
